Actual Life Ruiner, Tom Hiddleston

By Guest Writer Taylor Birk

There are two words that can accurately describe Tom Hiddleston, a British actor most known for playing Loki in "Thor" and "The Avengers": Life Ruiner.

That’s exactly what he does. He ruins lives. He ruined mine back in May of 2012. As usual, I’m late on the bandwagon. I didn’t see "Thor" when it was actually in theaters. I didn’t even see it until after I had seen "The Avengers." Which, by that point, I was already in love with Loki. Seeing Thor just made my love for him even worse.

Until more recently, Hiddleston hasn’t been a household name, as far as actors go. His popularity has grown greatly since he teamed up with Marvel, and I expect that he will just keep going up from here. He’s not just another pretty face (although his face is beautiful. Seriously. Look at it). He has the talent to keep his career skyrocketing even further.

After I had seen all the work he’s done for Marvel, I knew I had to see his other films. I watched as much as I could and I was not disappointed ("The Deep Blue Sea" is my favorite. Don’t watch it unless you want to ugly sob yourself to death). In all his work he plays such different characters and they’re all believable. He can go from playing innocent and na├»ve Bill Hazeldine, from TV show "Suburban Shootout" (If you can find it, watch it. It’s hilarious) to playing someone as sinister as Loki. It’s unbelievable.

So far, Hiddleston doesn’t have any comedies in his filmography. I hope to see that change very soon. Although he is fantastic at the serious roles, I would love to see him do something humorous. The man is an absolute goober. If you haven’t seen the Loki’d video he did for MTV, watch it. I was laughing until I was crying. He’s not afraid to make a fool of himself. He likes to entertain people and he does it well.

And if his acting isn’t enough to ruin your life, his personality is. The man is an absolute gentleman. I’ve never met him personally (I hope to someday) but I’ve seen him interact with his fans and he is wonderful to them. He goes out of his way to sigh autographs, take pictures, and even chat with them. And that’s saying something.

His fans, I’m sure, are not always the easiest to deal with. In the past few years Hiddleston’s had a few bad run ins with fans creating fake twitter accounts to get to him among other terrible mishaps. Considering what he’s gone through, he could be very closed off. I think it says a lot about him that he isn’t. Or maybe I’m just biased because I think he’s wonderful (I doubt it).

Hiddleston understands his fans and knows exactly what to do to keep them happy. At San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) this year, Hiddleston dressed up as Loki and delivered a speech in character for the Thor 2 panel. Everyone went crazy over it (it’s the only thing on my dash on Tumblr). It was perfect and I died (and wished I was at SDCC).

Overall, he’s driven in his chosen career path. Which isn’t surprisng since he graduated with double firsts from Cambridge University and attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA). Luckily for him, he has the talent to back up the drive. And his face is nice (I like his face. It’s a nice face).

I could go on and on about how great Tom Hiddleston is and why I love him (ask my mom. She’s sick of hearing about him). I could give you a rundown of my favorite Tom Hiddleston movies and why I love them. But don’t worry. I won’t do that.

I will, however, suggest that, if you do not already know who he is, enlighten yourself. It has been an absolute pleasure to have my life ruined by Tom Hiddleston. I hope it is for you too. And if you think he’s unattractive… we probably can’t be friends (I’m just kidding. But seriously. Don’t tell me. I’ll just disagree with you).

In case you didn’t know, I’m still dying for "Thor: The Dark World" to come out. I practically died for the three whole seconds he was onscreen during the trailer. I’m going to be way worse during the actual film. "Thor 2" hits theaters in November and then his next film, "Only Lovers Left Alive" (he plays a vampire. DEAD), hits theaters in December. I’m going to be on Tom Hiddleston overload this winter.

I can’t wait.
