Robin Meade: "Brand New Day" Album Review

We’ve had a few recent mentions of country music here on The UC, and normally, for no particular reason, I avoid this genre like the plague…especially pop country. However, it is official that NFL wide receiver and constant media attention whore, Chad Ochocino, and yes that is his real legal name, has officially endorsed Robin Meade’s country album.

ochocinco: ...I love @robinmeade new album "Brand New Day" forcing locker room to listen to it.

In the recent weeks, I have become a bit of a Robin Meade addict, and I will submit the page “Celeb Stuff” as evidence (as of December 8th 2011). Since I learned that this album “Brand New Day” is now a favorite of dirty sweaty men, I realized that I have to give this a try. You can't see, but I am one filthy Mother Fu*ker.

I listened to a few tracks of “Brand New Day,” and I can say that Robin Meade is a fine singer. Some people online were complaining about her voice, and I don’t find any problem with that.

On her track “Dirty Laundry,” I am glad they chose a song relevant to her career as an HLN broadcaster in a satirical and humorous tone. It’s rather perfect. However, the instrumentals remind me of some of the many reasons why I avoid country music. There is nothing wrong with folk or twang in your music….as long as it isn’t the ONLY thing in your music.

This is a video of Robin Meade singing with the African Children’s Choir, and it is definitely worth the watch and listen. Robin does well again; however, I will say that what this lacks is African feel and needs more African passion and energy.

Star System = 6.9 Stars/10 (69 Giggle Giggle)

This is an album that is filled with highs and lows. As previously mentioned, Robin Meade is a fine singer. Some of the instrumental arranging is not so hot, but it is a fun set of songs. Music has to be fun. However, I will note that the cover photo (seen above at the top) really looks unflattering for someone like Robin Meade. It doesn’t truly capture her attractive features, and don’t tell her I said this, but it makes her look 42 :O = Gasp.
