moar best of 2011

I realized I left off some stuff. this is because am brain-damaged. you think I'm kidding, but I'm definitely not. there is something going on upstairs I don't understand. *taps head*

Mayer Hawthorne definitely deserves some recognition. The album feels like a true throwback to the 1960s and the better era of soul. NEOSOUL? yes please. "The Walk" is great stuff; mostly because of all the swearing. hehehehe....

And Florence + the Machine? another good one! Except I feel like almost, ALMOST they have this tendency to sound exactly the same on each track. Like aEJREAJRLKEJEAREJ life crisis romance drama BERNAKJERLKAJELKRJELKAJRELK - that withstanding, a solid effort.

(so verbose)
(I told you, damage)

Washed Out proved they/he surpasses the label of "chillwave." Surprisingly beautiful mood music, like Enya for cool people:

As for books, 2011 provided me with two especially great reads that were actually current day:

Lightning People by Christopher Bollen
Blue Nights by Joan Didion

and I cannot wait until I eventually see either The Artist or Young Adult. Diablo Cody aside, Charlize Theron can do no wrong.

Looking forward to the LAST YEAR EVER (tm), CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG OH MY GOD OH MY OH MY OH MY GOD HOGOD
