Today, in Gwen Stefani/No Doubt lyrics

I know this is late. I apologize for having failed you. I am all over the place today and simply not at my best. Gwen would not approve.

That being said, I decided to go with "Hey Baby" for today's pick. First things first, here's the video, which I adore:

I want you to know when this came out, back in 2001, No Doubt fans were divided. It was like new Pepsi shit going down. "DID NO DOUBT SELL OUT? THEY SOUND LIKE A DANCE BAND!" well, that was the point. Rock Steady represented No Doubt's attempt to make a dance record. Whereas their three major albums went from thirdwave ska to alternative rock to electronic dance pop. In a way though, considering how crazy the electronic scene went in the late 2000s, they were ahead of the curve! Also, HOW COULD NO DOUBT SELL OUT? if they EVER sold out it was in like 1995. Morons. <3 you No Doubt.

moving on, the lyrics:

Misfit, I sit
Lit up, wicked
Everybody else surrounded by the girls
With the tank tops and the flirty words

I’m just sippin on chamomile
Watching boys and girls and their sex appeal
With a stranger in the face who says he knows my mom
And went to my high school

All the boys say,
Hey Baby, Hey Baby, Hey
Girls Say, Girls Say,
Hey Baby, Hey Baby, Hey
Hey Baby Baby
Hey Baby, Hey Baby, Hey
Boys Say, Boys Say
Hey Baby, Hey Baby, Hey
All the boys get the girls in the back

I’m the one they feed upon
Give a bit a star is born
And if you're hot enough you'll get the pass
And you can tell your friends how you made it back
No matter what they say I’m still the same
Somehow everybody knows my name
And all the girls wanna get with the boys
And the boys really like it!

This is such a crazy song and it's IMPOSSIBLE (I challenge you! challenge!) to listen to it and not smile. It's so silly.

what's it about:
- the groupie culture.

I've read enough interviews with this band to know that and it makes perfect sense. Would I screw a rock star? Oh you know it. I think I've talked about it before. Does No Doubt have groupies? Is the sky blue, friend? This is Gwen interpreting what she sees- viewing her male band mates try to bone girls that are really into their music. And she feels like a misfit because I take it she doesn't do that kind of thing. Or didn't. She has Gavin!

Also the chorus? Was written by Bono. I'm not kidding- he walked into their recording session and suggested it. Oh, Bono, you so profound.

Rolling Stone named Rock Steady one of the top 500 albums of all time. that says something, right there!

question:  would you dress like Gwen in this video? me neither. why tamper with perfection?
and what does Bounty Killer do, anyway?

edit:  it was supposed to be a DANCEHALL record. yay dancehall!
