wherein i assert myself over JEZEBEL

Okay, so fellow contributor Matthew showed me the latest issue of Interview Magazine yesterday. and at first I was floored by the gorgeous pictures of Marion. okay, I lie. I'm still floored by them. that women is flawless. let me have my moment, again.

...

ah! well on that note, I read a Jezebel article later that day that completely slammed the article on merit that Marion was a Tori Amos-esque fluffy bonehead and the piece was an illustration of one actress (Nicole Kidman, the obvious lesser of the two) "blowing smoke" up the ass of another.

I see where this writer is coming from, totally. you know how Hollywood is. it's a lot of artifice.

but at the same time, I think the last line of the article rendered the rest null. to say that Cotillard is just basically a good-intentioned bimbo ... that nothing she has to say is relevant because she's an attractive actress and really isn't that all she has going for her? is just stupid to me. I mean, granted, I read the article and wasn't amazed by anything Marion had to say. I was just like "oh here is another actress in Hollywood that is trying to do good things and seems all right but yeah whatever" and shrugged it off. like, she'd be cool to hang out with, you know.

and call me naive, but I thought the whole saving-the-environment pet project was cute. I know a lot of that is set up by celebrities' publicists, but there are probably worse things (coughLILOcoughhackdie).

Interview magazine usually has more heady material than this, I agree, but at the same time, I seriously feel like this Jezebel girl misguided her energy. something about her whole article just screamed BITTER to me. like, fault people for being good-looking, really? use that as your argument against them? that seems, to me, flawed logic. and something that's a lot more instinctual-based than anything else.

although I do sort of see that the writer is just trying to show the shallowness of the cult of celebrity, but again- that last part made her argument worthless to me.

I could say it was a case of the uglies, but I am not going to sink so low! after all, I do tend to shirk away from mirrors.
